When Confucius famously said, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” it was clear he recognized the secrets of success and the key principle of action. He might have also simply said, ”you aren’t going anywhere unless you make a move.”

The great adventure and success stories ever told, and those unfolding as you read this, have all begun with a solitary action step in search of a dream. Many extremely successful people didn’t know exactly how they would realize what they set out to achieve. But they believed in themselves and their dream and took a step anyway. Why would they do such a thing without knowing how to get where they’re going? Because regardless of whether they relied on success systems for guidance or just flew by the seat of their pants, they knew that the things you want do not come to you. You have to reach out and grab them. You can sit around for the rest of your life ”researching” your goals to death and not get anywhere. Or, you can agree that moving forward even when the path isn’t perfectly clear is far better than doing nothing. You are either living or you are existing and only committed action separates the two.

Even seemingly insignificant steps create momentum. That small movement leads to greater understanding which inspires even more action. And when you are comfortable with action, you create the kind of momentum that makes you a powerhouse of success.

So what’s keeping you from taking action today? Do you depend on others, or even worse, luck, to advance in life? Is buying a lottery ticket your idea of a good success strategy to create fortune rather than take active steps to actually create it? The successful don’t justify, blame or make excuses, they just act. And they most certainly do not hope wealth comes their way. They understand they will make it happen but only if they work for it.

It’s okay to be afraid, but don’t be fearful of the wrong thing. Don’t be afraid of creating success. This is daring, courageous and something to be celebrated. This is a life worth living. On the other hand, be very afraid of simply existing - of wasting your days in mediocrity and never fulfilling your dreams.

Is your life map incomplete? Never fear. See your desires clearly and step confidently towards them today. Your actions will help you find the way and will be the first in a life not soon forgotten.
